On Thursday, April 5, the Air China Boeing 777-300ER landed at the Tocumen International Airport, becoming the first commercial flight of the Asian company operating in our country. The route that will link the transcontinental flights between the capitals of Panama and Beijing, with a stop in Houston, Texas.
The President of the Republic, Juan Carlos Varela, in an official ceremony at the Tocumen Airport, together with the Chinese ambassador to Panama, Qiang Wei, described as a ‘historic milestone‘ the arrival of the airline and a sign of the new relations between Panama and the Asian giant.
The new route will strengthen the commercial links between both countries, as well as strengthen the connectivity of Panama, assured the president.
With the signing of a Civil Aviation Agreement formalized between the Varela administration and the Chinese government, traffic rights were granted for flights from China.
Since June 13, 2017, Panama maintains diplomatic relations with China after having cut ties with the government of Taiwan.
With this new relationship with China, the Panamanian government has announced several investment and cooperation projects, including the possible construction of a rail link between Panama and David. In addition, the inclusion of ‘transport infrastructure at the level of roads, railways, airports, and ports, enhancing the logistics processes associated with trade’.
