PANAMA CITY IS NAMED IBEROAMERICAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2019

Panama City was chosen on June 13, in the Plenary Assembly of the Union of Latin American Capital Cities (UCCI) as the next Iberoamerican Capital of Culture for 2019. The Latin American Capital of Culture is a nomination that grants UCCI each year, among the different candidates’ cities.

On August 15, 2019, Panama City turns 500 years of foundation, therefore the Commission Hall and the Foundation of 500 years made over the previous four years, activities of social, historical and cultural interest. The actions seek to direct the community to raise awareness of the historical, social and cultural importance of this celebration.

The UCCI is an international, non-profit organization, which groups 30 Latin American cities: the capital and other major cities in the Americas, Andorra, Portugal and Spain. Founded in October 1982, seeks to foster ties, relations, and exchanges of all kinds between the Latin American capital cities; promote the harmonious and balanced development of these, and seek solidarity and cooperation between them.
