THE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL CELEBRATES ITS FIFTH EDITION IN PANAMA
The fifth version of the International Film Festival (IFF Panama) will be held from 7 to 13 April 2016 at the Balboa Theater of Ancon. This festival will have national and international films and will pay tribute to the Italian actress Lucia Bosé. The films will be presented at Cinepolis Multiplaza, Balboa Theater, and Anita Villalaz Theater. Is expected the attendance of 10,000 spectators, compared to 2015, when 8,000 people attended. There are also more than 150 guest worldwide.
This fifth festival includes the Latin American premiere of this year’s Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language Film, “Son of Saul”. They will also have for the first time five national feature films: “La Ruta”, “A la Deriva”, “Es hora de enamorarse”, “El Cheque”, and “Salsipuedes”.
This year, the festival has for the first time the industrial category “Primera Mirada” to support the film industry of Central America and the Caribbean and will be awarded in cash of $ 25,000 to the winning film among the 5 finalists from 55 that were postulated.
These projections are very important in IFF Panama, to strengthen the national film industry, because they have the opportunity to be seen by members of the global industry as directors, producers, sales agents and distributors that are meeting in Panama in each festival. This festival has become an integral part of cultural life in Panama City.
For a country like Panama and Central America a film festival as the IFF, which is now in its fifth edition, represents a unique exhibition platform and a cultural tourist destination. With the celebration of the Panama IFF 2016 is expected the impact of local economy in hotel occupancy, restaurants, tours, shopping and other tourist services.
The festival began with the film “Ocho Apellidos Vascos” a spanish film, while the US film “Whiplash” will be screened at the closing ceremony at the National Theater.
